Named for the original shíshálh people upon whose traditional lands this community was built, the District of Sechelt is the heart—and the midway point—of the Southern Sunshine Coast. This quaint downtown community is nestled between the Sechelt Inlet on its east and the Strait of Georgia on its west.

Sharing the land with the shíshálh Nation, Sechelt (ch’atlich) has a total population of just over 10,000 and is home to important facilities and amenities for coastal residents including a hospital, Capilano University’s kál­ax-ay satellite campus, large retailers, community facilities, and more. The access to outdoor recreation, like all coastal communities, is what draws many to this area filled with incredible waters for kayaking and boating, hiking trails that wind through old-growth cedar forests, and mountain bike trails—including the only year-round mountain bike park in the province—all within a short drive from downtown.
